Courage

Here's my newest Twine story:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/64097119/Twine/Courage.html

I'm calling this project Courage.

Story statistics:
  • 49108 characters
  • 6955 words
  • 47 passages
  • 102 links

This story is much more personal than the last one I made.  It means something very specific to me, but I think it's something everyone can relate to.

I don't think the story can be understood after only one playthrough, so I encourage everyone to play multiple times.

Let me know what you think!

Cheers,

Danny

  1. Hi Danny,
I enjoyed your story a lot. Except I couldn't actually get a 'happy ending', even after several playthroughs. Maybe that was exactly the point: making a friendship evolve into a romantic relationship is no easy thing.
I also liked the element of randomness to the choices the player is offered at any given moment. What I thought was a little bit strange, however, was how the girl's responses to things the protagonist does were so very situational. I mean, obviously one and the same thing can be good in some context, and bad in another, but I felt the girl's sensitivity to what had been said before was a bit exaggerated. Even though I tried to stick to a certain course of action, I often couldn't predict her reactions, and I don't really have the same problem in RL. If one has been friends with a girl for 17 months, there is very little chance the idea of going a relationship with that person did not occur to her at least once. If it did, odds are she already made up her mind whether or not she would like that. Or it could be that she is not sure, and then everything is pretty much up to the guy. Still, having read through your story, I felt like the conversation in the car was the SOLE factor that determined the outcome (and that was a bit hard to believe). I don't know if it makes sense or not, but that was just my impression. It could be that I am over-rationalizing, and in any case, the story being a personal one, there is no way it can be right or wrong etc. And once again, I did in fact enjoy the story a lot.
Anyhow, I just wanted to share my thoughts. Sorry for the long post and good luck :)
    Peace out.

    1. No need to apologize. I appreciate the long post - the comment section of this blog is pretty lonely right now.

Interesting. I too find that hard to believe.

  2. Just got through this.

Nice play on a familiar theme. I like the execution with all the randomization of reactions.
